"Freestyle" cruising, a term the line coined, means you can wear just about anything wherever and whenever you'd like. If their parents are sailing, passengers 18 to 20 years old can drink beer and wine in international waters with a signed waiver. Passengers can withdraw cash from onboard ATMs but will pay a hefty surcharge. Norwegian Viva provides special areas for smokers to light up cigarettes, cigars and e-cigarettes. They include the casino, the Humidor Cigar Lounge (cigars only) and a covered spot on Deck 18.

At dinnertime, cruisers might choose to put on khakis with collared shirts or sundresses; it's usually casual, though. The ship is cashless, so you'll use your room keycard like a charge card to make purchases, which are then charged to your onboard account. Norwegian Viva will split its time between Lisbon, Portugal, and San Juan, Puerto Rico, both of which will serve as seasonal home ports for the ship. They've had to adapt the show to fit on the Viva Theater's smaller stage, of course, but that has allowed the team the flexibility to tweak things they didn't like about the original version. So, when it debuts — offering two shows on each of two nights during a typical voyage for four total performances — the show promises to be even better than the original.
Lack of quiet spaces
You never miss a sunset and revel in the electricity of night as it comes to life in a brand-new light. Welcome aboard the all-new Norwegian Viva, the next stunning ship in a brand-new class, designed for you to live life to the fullest. Stay connected to the ocean with experiences that bring you closer to the horizon. Stretch out, way out, in our most spacious accommodations to date. And look forward to first-rate service so you can live it up every second.
Allocation of space
Or get into a livelier groove as you enjoy a craft cocktail while listening to live music at The Local Bar & Grill. Take in the stunning, 270-degree views and mouthwatering menu of our new main dining room, Hudson’s. The refined design of The Commodore Room, the wide variety of to-the-minute items at the indoor/outdoor Surfside Café, and the global offerings of Indulge Food Hall will satisfy every craving.
The Speedway go-kart track incurs extra fees, as do the high-tech games and escape rooms in The Galaxy Pavilion. Room service hits passengers with $4.95 for breakfast delivery, and $9.95 for all times outside that -- plus a 20 percent auto-gratuity. Starbucks Coffee on Deck 7 isn't included on any beverage package, and beverage packages don't include bottled water -- that comes as a separate, somewhat confusing -- package. We've thought long and hard about those indulgent moments on Viva to ensure we're delivering the absolute best.
ALL CRUISE LINES (1543 SHIPS)
Her most unique water features live on Deck 8 at Ocean Boulevard's Infinity Beach, where you'll find two breathtaking Infinity Pools on either side, surrounded by lounge chairs and daybeds. It doesn't get much better than lying in the sun, listening to the waves, then floating in an Infinity Pool as you stare directly into the ocean. Or simply splash off in the convenient cooling pools encircling the daybeds. Starting on Deck 17, the main pool deck is full of fun experiences as well — it features two infinity hot tubs, a pool bar, a Kid's Aqua Park, a sun deck and Norwegian's tidal wave waterslide. Beyond the usual extra-cost items like drinks and specialty dining reservations -- both of which can be purchased as inclusive packages pre-cruise -- some of Norwegian Viva's coolest features are fee-based.
On Viva, NCL offers "Tee Time" (interactive mini-golfing) where gamers can play on a 9-hole Mini-Golf Course. Like all boats from the BREAKAWAY and BREAKAWAY PLUS series, NCL's Viva has the "Viva Speedway" (fleet's largest racetrack), "The Rush" (2-tube/dueling dry slides) and "The Drop" (world's first freefall dry slide). In 2017, the brand NCL had a worldwide cruise market share 8,7% (passengers) and 8,4% (revenue). Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is a subsidiary company of the shipping corporation Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NCLH).

Because Norwegian Viva also has The Local and Indulge, the space dedicated to the traditional buffet is smaller than on other cruise ships. I didn't eat a single meal there because when I ventured inside it was so crowded that people could barely move. The Commodore Room and Hudson's are the ship's two complimentary main dining rooms on decks 6 and 7 aft, respectively. I only ate dinner at Hudson's once on my voyage, but I was so impressed with the pad thai that I would have asked for seconds if I hadn't been so full.
We much preferred the more quiet, easygoing Indulge Food Hall on Deck 8 with its funky indoor seating and scenic outdoor deck areas for our breakfasts and lunches, and found ourselves resistant to visiting the traditional buffet, doing so only a few times. The first thing experienced cruisers are likely to notice about Norwegian Viva is that its traditional topside buffet -- the Surfside Cafe on Deck 17 aft -- is woefully under-sized for a ship with this many passengers. Sure, helpful crewmembers point out that seating in specialty restaurant Food Republic is available, but simply put there's just very little seating indoors or out. Norwegian was the first cruise line to make a real effort to accommodate solo travelers with the studio cabins it introduced on Norwegian Epic in 2010. The concept has carried through to the line's newest vessels, including Norwegian Viva.

If you don't show up half an hour ahead of showtime, you'll be lucky if you can even find standing room inside. Following a string of inaugural cruises and beginning June 2023, Norwegian Viva will be the newest ship embarking in the Mediterranean. Teenagers, surely, will relish every second aboard Norwegian Viva -- though their favorite diversions are likely to come with a cost. The Speedway, Galaxy Pavilion and Escape Rooms all scream teenage fun, along with organized activities like trivia, evening movies and sports outings. -- doing away with the singular buffet concept, the better the experience gets. You just don't have to put yourself through what is usually a stressful, crowded experience -- but nor do you have to devote the kind of time needed for a typical sit-down in the Main Dining Room, either. From casual buffets to exquisite specialty restaurants, learn everything there is to know about dining on board.
For the first time, every public area offers sea views from floor-ceiling windows. We know that our guests want many of their meals to be complimentary, so we've added a host of additional options that allow you to eat in style while saving up for those special nights. Often, cruisers head directly to the buffet on board — Viva's is at Surfside Café, and we've added an outdoor Surfside Grill for a quick bite like hot dogs, burgers and more. But we actually encourage guests to head straight to Norwegian's food hall, Indulge Food Hall, where diners can choose from 11 stations around the globe. Indian, Italian, Chinese, BBQ, rotisserie, tapas, desserts and more are all complimentary! Then sit inside, outside, or even grab-and-go for a 'picnic' at one of the many lounging areas around the ship.
On Viva, two spaces on Deck 15 forward accommodate all kids from 6 months to 17 years. Because entertainment is one of the few areas that sets Norwegian Viva apart from Norwegian Prima, I was excited to experience the new shows, especially after NCL told us it was bringing Broadway production "Beetlejuice" on board. Unfortunately, the musical isn't ready yet, so I won't be able to see it on my voyage.
If you're a Norwegian Cruise Line regular, you likely know all about the fish that appear on the carpeting in the cabin corridors on most of the line's ships. The fish are always swimming forward toward the front of the vessel. Throughout the 45-minute experience, we searched for clues to help us locate him and escape the locked area. Unfortunately, the final piece of equipment glitched — even though we did everything right, according to the crew member overseeing our progress — so we never got to see the conclusion, despite solving all of the puzzles correctly.
